Saudi Arabia to issue tourist visas

Saudi Arabia has announced it will issue a tourist visa as it prepares to become a holiday destination.
Who can apply?
Until now, visas have only been approved for expatriates, business trips, pilgrimages or family visits, but with the new immigration scheme, citizens of 49 countries may apply for a Saudi Arabian visa. These include Schengen area countries, the United States, China, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Japan and South Africa.
Tourists from countries without visa exemption may apply electronically, or at the nearest embassy or consulate, and attach it to the required documentation.
- Firstly, the application can be submitted online in less than 30 minutes.
- Visas will cost approximately 110 euros.
- Moreover, Medical insurance is included.
- Valid for one year with multiple entry.
- Further, maximum duration of up to three months of stay.
Saudi Arabia is a conservative country with strict religious norms. However, authorities have announced that visitors will not be questioned about their religion or sexual orientation. That said, it is advisable to exercise discretion in public.
The country’s opening to tourism is part of Vision 2030, the local programme designed to transform the kingdom’s economy.
