Long-term visas in Spain
There are several types of visas. Transit visa, short-stay visa and long-stay visa. Depending on the intended activity and the length of stay required, the appropriate one should be requested.
Work visas
- Authorization for residence and self-employment. The holder of this permit is authorized to start a business, if he/she complies with certain requirements such as having sufficient resources for his/her maintenance and presenting a business plan that is attractive to the Spanish economy, among others.
- Authorization of residence and work for others. The holder of this permit must have an employment contract with a company.
Investor visa or Golden visa
The investor visa or Golden visa is a residence and work authorization granted to all non-EU citizens who wish to live and work in Spain, if they make an economic investment of at least 500,000 euros individually.
Non-profit residence visa
The initial non-profit residence visa is granted to non-EU citizens who can prove sufficient funds to reside in Spain without carrying out any type of economic activity for one year. It can be requested jointly with the family. It is not necessary to wait for one year of residence as in the current family reunification procedure.
Visa for family reunification
Family reunification is the procedure by which a non-EU citizen, being a holder of a residence permit in Spain, can bring his family members; thus, granting them a residence and work permit.
To process the family regrouping it is necessary to have the initial residence and work permit renewed. In other words, if the applicant has been legally in Spain for less than one year, he/she cannot apply for the family reunification visa until this period has expired.
