What is RUCT and why you need to know about it
If you are going to study a master’s degree in Spain, you might be interested in knowing if the degree you are going to receive is official or not. The Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT) contains all the official degrees and university centers in Spain.
This tool of the Ministry of Education is updated every academic year, and you can find in it all the information about the Spanish universities, public or private, its own or affiliated centers and higher degrees.
What information does RUCT offer?
- Degrees: This section provides information on current and outdated degrees, as well as their academic level, optional credits, internships and the Master’s Degree Final Project. It also provides information on master’s degrees, doctorates or training cycles in arts and humanities, health sciences, social and legal sciences, architecture and engineering.
- Official centers: this section offers information related to autonomous centers and centers attached to public or private universities in Spain.
- Universities: here you will find information related to official universities (public or private), and basic information about the university and the procedures you need to follow as a student.
What happens if the center where I am going to study does not appear in the RUCT?
In Spain there are many private universities or business schools with unofficial programs, more focused on the labor market. This means that the degree is more practical than academic, like some of the official degrees registered in the RUCT.
If the place of study you chose does not appear in the RUCT list, it means that it is an unofficial study center. In other words, it is not listed in the registry. However, all study programs in Spain are protected by the Organic Law of Universities.
Non-regulated postgraduate studies have their own degree, i.e., it is issued by the same institution that teaches them, but not by the Ministry of Education. In some cases, these degrees can be recognized abroad.
