Spain suspends flights from the United Kingdom
As of December 22, Spain suspends flights from the United Kingdom, except for Spaniards or residents. In addition, border controls with Gibraltar will be reinforced.
This temporary measure is due to the new variant of COVID-19 which has shown signs of being more contagious, although there is no evidence of a change in the severity of the disease, according to the WHO.
Spain joins the long list of countries that have announced new mobility restrictions to and from the United Kingdom due to this new strain of coronavirus.
The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, Austria, Portugal, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Norway, Turkey, India, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru announced the suspension of entry and exit of travelers, as an exceptional measure to prevent the spread of the new variant.
In the United Kingdom, strict lockdown is being enforced with the closure of non-essential businesses such as cinemas, gyms, and beauty salons for two weeks. In addition, meetings between people who do not live in the same house are limited.
