New Migration Law in Peru goes into effect
For foreigners wishing to travel to Peru and stay for a specific period of time, Supreme Decree No. 007-2017-IN, Regulation of the New Migration Law, has been published and entered into force on 1 March.
This new law is applicable to qualified professionals, investors, students and foreign volunteers, as discussed in an earlier publication. The amendment to the reform affects the different work permits and immigration statuses created by the Law and are adjusted according to the length of stay and activities to be carried out.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru has a period of 60 working days from March 1, 2017, to establish the administrative procedures, requirements and consular fees that will be applicable.
In addition, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior will also have to establish the required procedures for migratory services.
Due to the above, the procedures, requirements and mechanisms of each process must be updated and established within the deadlines indicated by the said authorities based on the new immigration legislation of Peru.
