ETIAS, the new authorization to travel to Europe
As of 2024, citizens from at least 60 countries will need ETIAS, the new authorization to travel to Europe.
The European Travel Information and Authorization System, ETIAS, is an authorization, not a visa. This means that citizens who do not need a visa to enter the Schengen area will still not need a visa.
Procedure for processing the ETIAS
The procedure will be carried out online. Before traveling, the applicant must complete a form with basic data (name, age, occupation, passport number, country of entry to Europe). In addition, he/she must answer a questionnaire on security and health issues.
Once the application form is submitted, the system will verify the data and issue a travel authorization within minutes. In some cases, when additional traveler checks are required, the authorization may take up to 30 days.
How long is ETIAS valid?
The validity period of ETIAS will be three years and, according to the European Commission, it is valid for an unlimited number of entries.
How much does it cost to process the ETIAS?
Travelers between the ages of 18 and 70 will have to make a one-time payment of seven euros. Travelers under 18 and over 70 years of age are exempt from payment.
