This authorization may be requested by the spouse, domestic partner and dependent minor or disabled children.

The application is made in person at the Spanish consular office. It can be made simultaneously with the application for the student visa, or during the valid period of the authorization of stay for studies.

The authorization to family members is granted for the time in force of the permit granted to the student. If the stay is longer than six months, a foreigner’s identity card must be processed first.

In no case this permit authorizes to carry out lucrative activities, unless a first application for residence and work is initiated.

The student must prove sufficient economic means for the support of his/her family members during the stay in Spain; as well as documentation that proves the family relationship.

In the case of dependent children over eighteen years of age, proof of the child’s disability must be provided.
