Spain imposes a 14-day quarantine for foreign travelers
Starting Friday, May 15, travelers from abroad must remain in quarantine for 14 days, according to an order from the Spanish Ministry of Health.
As indicated in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the measure will be in force during the state of alarm caused by Covid-19 and its possible extensions. The ministerial order states that, during the quarantine, foreign travelers can only go out to go to the health center, buy food or basic necessities and the pharmacy, and always with a mask.
The health authorities may contact the people in quarantine to carry out a proper follow-up. In the event of symptoms such as fever, cough, respiratory distress, general discomfort or other symptoms of a suspected case of Covid-19, quarantined persons should contact the health services by telephone using the numbers enabled by the Autonomous Communities, indicating that They are quarantined for coming from abroad.
Similarly, the BOE notes that travel agencies and transport companies must inform travelers before buying tickets to Spain.
Airlines must provide the public health form to locate passengers (Passanger Location card), referred to in Annex 9, on facilitation of the International Civil Aviation Convention, which must be entered by the traveler upon arrival in Spain.
The ministerial order indicates that the following are exempt from these measures:
- Cross-border workers
- Carriers and crews
- Healthcare professionals who are going to carry out their work, provided they have not been in contact with people diagnosed with Covid-19.
