The new Brexit timetable will postpone the severance of relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union until January 31, 2020, three months later than expected. This marks the third extension of the Brexit date.

Both sides accept that the extension is inevitable and are confident that the approval of this additional period will allow the UK to hold general elections. The aim is to clarify the position of the British Parliament on Brexit.

The extension, approved by the EU-27 partners, allows the UK to remain in the EU until January 31, 2020. Although it may leave earlier if the ratification process of the exit agreement is completed. The delay also means London must appoint a representative to the new European Commission.

Whatever the outcome, uncertainty is inevitable. Whether or not an agreement is reached, much remains to be negotiated and decided during the transition period after the United Kingdom leaves the EU.
