NZeTA: Further requirement for travellers visiting New Zealand
As of October 1, 2019, travellers from countries with visa waivers, such as Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, or the EU, must apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before travelling to New Zealand.
What is the NZeTA
NZeTA is a control measure from the New Zealand immigration authorities, which is mandatory for visitors and passengers in transit. Anyone who does not present a NZeTA will not be permitted to board a plane to New Zealand.
Travellers from countries with visa requirements must complete the process as normal and attach the NZeTA to the required documentation.
Applications should be made well in advance of travel, even though the NZeTA is processed within 72 hours.
How to obtain a NZeTA
Applications made via the mobile app will cost NZ$9.
Completing the application at the New Zealand immigration office will cost NZ$12.
The NZeTA only applies to travellers who wish to visit New Zealand for periods of less than 90 days. For longer visits, you should apply for a New Zealand Immigration visa.
The NZeTA is valid for two years, and, once processed, can be used as many times as required.
