Chile: Special Visas for Venezuelans

If you’re Venezuelan and considering emigrating to Chile, here’s the process for applying for the new Visa of Democratic Responsibility:

Requirements:

  • Valid passport with a minimum of 18 months’ validity from date of application
  • Criminal record certificate, apostilled by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs
  • A 5×5 photo, with a white background
  • In the case of minors, their parents or legal guardians must also include a birth certificate, apostilled by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs

Process:

  • You must apply online via the Consular Assistance System.
  • In the VISA tab, you can access the Travel Information form. You’ll need to fill in your personal details and choose the option “Temporary Residence Visa, Democratic Responsibility.”
  • Once the form has been sent, the Chilean authorities will check your application. If it is approved, you will receive an email with information on the fee and how to pay it.
  • Once you have paid the required fee, the Chilean authorities will give you an appointment for a VISA interview. You will need to bring a copy of the receipt for the fee, as well as the originals and photocopies of all necessary documents.
  • Although you can apply online, bear in mind that you’ll need to present your documents in the Chilean Consulate in Caracas or Puerto Ordaz.

It’s very important to be aware that if your application is approved, the Consulate will take between 4 and 6 months to add the VRD Visa to your passport. You must plan the timing of your application well, given that you will need to have 18 months’ validity left on your passport and a valid criminal record check for the whole time your application is being processed.

We recommend that you don’t buy your plane ticket until you’ve had your passport stamped with the VRD Visa.
