Last May, the Russian State Duma (Parliament) approved the issuance of a new type of temporary visa for foreign citizens and stateless persons who arrive in the country with the purpose of obtaining the temporary residence permit.

This type of visa is added to the existing ones (tourism, business, studies, transit and personnel) will be processed for a period of up to 4 months. This permit will be granted to those who have the approval of the regional department of the Ministry of Interior of Russia to process temporary residence.

The new legislation clarifies that the visa is authorized to enter the country and for the temporary stay or travelers in transit through the Russian territory. However, there may be visa exceptions for citizens of certain Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and certain Latin American countries such as Cuba, Colombia, Peru and Chile; Who do not need a visa to call or visit Russia.
