The European Commission has approved the abolition of short-term visas so that Ukrainians can travel to the EU (except Ireland and United Kingdom) and stay for up to 90 days. The new measure will become effective in June 2017, once the Council and the European Parliament sign the rules.

To date, the processing of short-term visas in Ukraine is by appointment, explaining the reasons for the trip and the required documentation depending on each country; this in addition to medical insurance in case of emergencies.

Once the new law becomes effective, Ukrainians will be able to do without the visa if they travel for tourism, visit family and friends or for business reasons, however, this does not allow them to work in the EU.

For those who wish to stay for an extended period of time (more than 90 days), they must apply for a long-term visa directly at the Embassy of each country.
