What kind of permit you need if you decide to study in Spain?
Foreigners who have made the decision to study in Spain or perform unpaid research in an officially recognized public or private center, must apply for a student card in order to stay in the country legally.
This document that allows the stay in Spain, unlike the residence, does not grant the right to reside permanently in the country. The validity depends on the duration of the studies in which the student is enrolled or the period of development of the research work carried out.
This card, which is requested during the three months from the date of entry to Spain, may be extended as long as the student maintains the link with an educational center. However, it will not be valid for more than one year, so it is necessary to request the extension in case of continuing training. The renewal must be processed during the 60 days prior to the expiration date.
On the other hand, having a student residence permit does not grant the possibility of working either for own account or for the account of others. In this case, the only possibility of performing remunerated activities is that they are compatible with the studies, that is, part time or fixed duration and that are also carried out under an agreement signed between the educational center and the employer.
