The US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) announced the redesign of the Green Card and the Employment Authorization Document (EAD), with the aim of preventing counterfeiting.

This new measure is part of the next generation Secure Identification Document Project, which will start issuing from May 1st. USCIS explained that the card’s “uses enhanced graphics and fraud-resistant security features to create cards that are highly secure and more tamper-resistant than those currently in use.”

The changes in the new cards show the beneficiary’s photo on both sides, the green card will predominate on the Green Card and the red card on EAD, will have integrated holographic images, will not have the signature of the user and will no longer have an optical stripe on the back.

The main reason the US government has decided to change cards is the frequency with which foreigners use fake green cards to get a job. However, those already granted will not undergo any changes and will be valid until the expiration date shown on the card.
