Quebec extends list of foreign professionals allowed
The province of Quebec in Canada announced that a measure will shortly be in place to facilitate the process of hiring highly qualified foreign workers. This change, in addition to streamlining the management process, is to add categories to the list of professions included in the temporary foreign workers program.
Some professions that have been added this year are: financial analysts, computer engineers, technical specialists in landscaping and horticulture.
Applicants who want to opt for this type of temporary work visa must have at least secondary education, as well as experience and certifications required by each profession and each place of work.
To date, the procedure for obtaining a work visa could be extended for up to six months; However, Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil said the process could now be completed in weeks. This measure is the result of the demand of the business sector of the province, against the lack of skilled labor in certain areas.
It should be noted that while the visa is for temporary workers, it is possible to apply for permanent residence, since the Canadian Government has shown interest in keeping these highly qualified personnel in the country.
