Risks in temporary displacement and suspension of work
Temporary displacement of workers is a constant in companies with projects in different countries. Although the benefits of these practices are known, the risks associated with improper handling of temporary displacements are not always considered.
As explained in “Do you know the risks involved in the temporary displacement of a worker?“, the key to avoid conflicts and optimize time, money and resources, is to implement a Program of short-time displaced workers within the company.
An example of the consequences of not having a standardized displacement program is what happened at the beginning of March in Mozambique, with a multinational of the petroleum sector. After an inspection by the Mozambican Ministry of Labor, authorities warned irregularities in the hiring of 34 foreign workers.
As stated by the African Labor Inspectorate, 17 workers were assigned to short-term work and the company had not submitted the necessary permits to provide such services in the country. Consequently, the workers of English, Iranian, Canadian, Brazilian, American and South African nationality have been suspended from the work until the Mozambican government decides how to proceed.
