China improves its permanent residence policy
This past 18th of February the Ministry of Public Security announced China’s need to attract foreign talent in order to ensure the country’s social and economic sustainability. To achieve this, it has improved its foreign residence policy, making it easier to request and obtain a green card.
This process benefits the foreign workers already working within China’s borders who have demanded a change in how the country handles their permanent residence permits.
Permanent residence permits (green cards) have been historically difficult to obtain in China, in addition to the fact that they have always been considered by many to be of little use. From now on, however, this will change significantly as more people obtain their green cards and enjoy the same opportunities as chinese citizens namely in the access to public education and social security, buying a home, obtaining a driver’s license and much more.
Reducing the difficulties long associated with securing a green card suggests an important step forward for the future of foreign students and international mobility towards the asian country.
