In order to attract high net worth investors who wish to capitalize on its assets in Australia, the government has created the Premium Investor Visa. This visa grants permanent residency within 12 months, provided that the person concerned has an investment capital of 15 million Australian dollars.

The investment can cover:

• Government bonds
• Securities
• Certain corporate bonds
• Real estate
• Deferred annuities
• Philanthropic grants approved by the government

Permanent residency is given 12 months after the investment is made. In this case, the investor is not required to live in Australia during this time.

This program adds to the existing Significant Investor Visa and granting residence after making an investment of 5 million Australian dollars over a period of 4 years. In this period, the investor will have a temporary visa, with duration of four years, renewable for a period of two years.
