E.U. Citizen Registration Certificate
If you are an EU citizen and you want to live in Spain for a period of more than three months, you will need to apply for a certificate of registration of the European Union.
The application must be made in person at the Oficina de Extranjería, or at the Police Station in the province where you are going to live. You will be given the E.U. Citizen Registration Certificate immediately.
Requirements to apply for the E.U. Registration Certificate
If you are a citizen of the European Union you are entitled to apply for this document, whether you are employed or self-employed. To obtain it, you must prove that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself and your family, if necessary. In addition, you must have full medical insurance coverage in Spain.
You can also apply if you are a student. You will have to provide the certificate of enrollment in a public or private center recognized by the Ministry of Education.
If you are an EU citizen and a family member of a student or worker; his/her spouse or common-law partner, child of the student or worker and his/her spouse or partner.
Documentation to apply for the Certificate of Registration of the European Union
- Application form.
- Valid passport.
- Payment of the corresponding fee.
- The self-employed worker must provide the registration in the Census of Economic Activities, registration in the Commercial Registry or situation in the Social Security system.
- Employed workers must provide a certificate of employment, employer’s declaration of employment, an employment contract registered with the Public Employment Service, or a document showing their status in the Social Security system.
- Family members of EU citizens must provide documentation proving the family relationship, as well as economic dependence.
Remember that documents from other countries must be translated into Spanish or the co-official language of the territory where the application is submitted.
